YouTube recently announced a host of new features, additions and improvements that will be rolled out through the rest of the year. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki made these new, exciting YouTube changes the focus of her keynote speech at last month’s Vidcon event in Anaheim California.
At Vidcon, a large video conference attracting thousands of video creators and fans every year, Wojcicki announced the release of the new mobile app, while emphasizing the goal of giving back to the users that form the YouTube community. The various YouTube changes and updates, which apply to the mobile apps, general video creation, and personal development, can help companies make the best possible impression on YouTube.
Half of all YouTube views now come from mobile devices, with mobile traffic doubling every year. In light of this growing trend, the company is introducing a few new features to make YouTube more accessible on the go. Firstly, all of the mobile features are organized into three easy tabs: “Home,” which will offer personalized video and playlist recommendations; “Subscriptions,” where you can see the latest news from your favorite channels and creators; and “Account,” where you can see your viewing and uploading activity.
Subscribers also now have the option of receiving mobile and email alerts when you upload new videos. Along with improvements to the subscription feed on mobile devices, the mobile/email alerts will make sure your subscribers don’t have the chance to miss your exciting new videos. In addition, mobile users will now be able to view your videos full-screen, so all the effort you put into your videos won’t be just barely visible in a tiny portion of the screen.
YouTube’s Creator Studio app, a separate application specifically designed for channel management, will also receive updates. In addition to more information about your channel activity, Creator Studio users will be able to edit video thumbnails and enable/disable monetization from their mobile devices. All of the updates are already available on Android phones and will soon be available on iOS.
Video game lovers can look forward to the upcoming YouTube Gaming app, which features live-streaming. With pages for more than 25,000 games, YouTube Gaming brings together video content from across YouTube, filtering out other content so users can easily find their favorite game-related content. Designed to compete with rivals like Amazon’s Twitch, YouTube Gaming has 60 frames per second, sure to meet users’ expectation of a vivid gaming experience.
YouTube Changes to Video Creation
Some of the new updates are designed to give users more tools in order to make outstanding videos. YouTube cards, released in March, enable YouTube videos to easily direct viewers to website, products, and even other videos. These are an especially great way for marketing videos to maximize what they can accomplish in a short time frame YouTube is now adding the option to use YouTube cards to link to other channels, allowing affiliated companies to support each other and increase everyone’s visibility.
Other new features you can use to boost your company videos are 360-degree videos and 3D videos. 360-degree videos were introduced earlier this year, and soon users will also be able to shoot 360-degree videos in 3D! You also won’t have to sort through as many spam comments on your videos, as YouTube has devised a new system that reduces the rate of dislikes on comments by 30%.
A highly anticipated feature is the upcoming YouTube Creator Community, an online forum where YouTube users can collaborate and exchange ideas. The Creator Community is designed to be a unique alternative to other forums such as Google and Yahoo! Answers so people can more easily find the information and connections they are looking for.
YouTube has also added 50 more lessons to the YouTube Creator Academy, a resource designed to give users helpful advice for creating videos. This is good for individual creators but could get brands into trouble thinking that they can create videos themselves. Which is true but creating a video that people want to watch is a complicated for brands to do right.
From the improved mobile apps to personal development channels and general video features, all of the various updates can give you tools to bring your video marketing strategy to the next level. People nowadays expect high quality videos and will judge your videos to decide whether you’re a credible company, so if you don’t disappoint, you can easily have countless potential clients at your fingertips. Be sure to take advantage of all YouTube has to offer in order to bring your company the attention it deserves. How will your company use these YouTube changes to interact and engage with your audience?
