HOW TO: Connect with Barack Obama on LinkedIn

HOW TO: Connect with Barack Obama on LinkedIn

I recently got asked this question about how to connect with Barack Obama on LinkedIn, and because I had a little trouble doing so myself, I thought I would let anyone know who wants to get connected with him on LinkedIn how I did so.  Whether you agree with Barack Obama’s policies or not, at one time during his Presidency according to one source he was the 21st most connected person in the LinkedIn world, so he is not a bad super-connector to connect with in order to build up one’s network.

Finding Barack Obama’s LinkedIn Profile

Finding Barack Obama's LinkedIn Profile

At first I found about Barack Obama being on LinkedIn when reading a LinkedIn connection’s profile.  He had a paragraph about all of the famous people in his network, and this included Barack.  I then found Barack’s profile, and sure enough, there he was!  After seeing him pop up on the TopLinked.com Top 50 list, I tried to connect with him but unfortunately was not able to…

Interested in Barack’s marketing tactics, I had signed up on his homepage to receive regular E-Mails from him about his campaign.  He often personally sends out E-Mails to his followers with updates before he releases the information to the press.  I then thought, since I get E-Mails directly from him, why don’t I add him as a contact and utilize the E-Mail address from which I get his mailings from?  Sure enough my request was accepted and now I am connected to Barack as well!

Update on Barack Obama’s Email Address

Apparently Barack has changed the E-mail address from which he sends his supporters E-mails, so I have already had a contact notify me that the above does not work.  While I would like everyone who is interested to sign up on Barack’s website as a show of support, the address that shows up on my contact list for him is obamaamerica@gmail.com, so please try to use this to connect with him directly.

  1. Neal, you may or may not have made my dreams come true. I just sent Obama an invite using the email you provided. Would it say invalid email if wrong one? Mine went through but says pending invite. Normal?

    • Correct. This post was written sometime ago so his connection policy might have changed – good luck!!!

  4. I’ve been connected to Obama for a month or so now. No reply from him, no new questions to his network for me to comment on, unless I’ve missed something major on LinkedIn.

If you’re inclined, you may try to reach other politically-connected people. McCain makes no secret of the fact he doesn’t even use e-mail himself. There was an eye-opening article recently having to do with how Barack Obama has maintained the social networking edge over his competitors, blowing past Hillary in the primaries partly because he was so well-connected and his people were so organized. This and other articles I’ve recently read make me wonder what the future holds in store.

SUCCESS STORY: I am successfully connected to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on LinkedIn, also, and she [presumably, a staffer or personal assistant] has sent me several friendly e-mails in response to letters and notes I’ve sent via LinkedIn’s messaging service.

Mr. Obama’s people haven’t done for me, to date, but then again, I wasn’t very complimentary of him in recent blogging I’ve done and in comments at http://huffingtonpost.com/ What do they say about honey and vinegar, in regard to attracting insects?
