If you are familiar with the concept of a blog, then you know that a blog is made to be read. A successful blog is one that is read consistently, and regarded as an authority, or a reliable standby. Unfortunately, much of the advice out there has aged poorly, and no longer applies to blogging as it is in 2025.
To replace much of the information that is outdated, ineffective, or simply incorrect, I have developed a blog promotion strategy guide that I have put together after hours and hours of my own work and research, to help you create a strategy that works to increase blog traffic while avoiding common pitfalls that I, myself, have learned to avoid.
To that end, I have put together the best advice based on different marketing channels in which to promote your blog, including how to use those channels, and how to successfully promote your blog in a way that feels organic and compelling. First up: promoting your blog to your target audience via search engines.
Promoting Your Blog to Search Engines
The purpose of blogging is to expose your content to a wider audience via search engines, thereby getting traffic from those same search engines. Reaching that wider audience means effectively promoting your blog by promoting it to search engines; after all, there is no reaching your audience in a wider net if you do not first cast that net!
Using the tips I have put together, you can begin making sure your blog is marketed to Google analytics effectively, to see traffic via a search query on search engines. The tips I suggest include learning to…
1. Prioritize Search Engine Optimization
Blogging without SEO defeats the purpose of blogging; unless you don’t care how many or how few visitors you see on your site, you need SEO tools to see organic traffic coming in.
Effective SEO includes making sure you do proper keyword research for each and every blog post you publish to ensure that Internet users within your target audience actually have a need for your content. Keyword research tools are a necessary investment for bloggers today, and typically provide a solid return on investment (ROI).

2. Improve Your Website’s Performance
If SEO is important to successfully promote your blog, you need to understand Google ranking factors and how they apply to blogs. Speed and mobile optimization are definitely near the top, in terms of ranking factors, which is why it is important to focus on performance to make sure your blog is doing well. Blog topics themselves are valuable, but you cannot neglect the actual performance of your site.

3. Create High-Quality Content (for People)
Creating high-quality content is important, because it falls in line with the Google Helpful Contact update, and all recent updates developed by Google. Create high quality content for humans, and the search engines will ultimately reward you.
What does it mean, exactly, to create high-quality content? Far more than simply creating a relevant blog post, making high-quality content means conducting thorough research, providing helpful and actionable information, and entertaining your audience. You want your audience to keep coming back for more, so create content that you would like to read, as well.

4. Use (and Ideally Create Your Own) Visuals
Visuals not only make for more engaging content, effectively keeping people on your site long and improving SEO performance, but they also become indexed by Google. Why is this significant? Indexing allows you to drive more traffic from search engines through image search.
If someone searches “how to use [product name]” on Google, and your images are properly tagged with this same tagline, your image will show up in a Google search.

If the visual, like a data visualization, is good enough, it might also attract backlinks from other websites–another boon for SEO performance. Ultimately, the goal here is to make your images as useful to search engine users as text.
5. Make Your Content Searchable
Making your content searchable means making sure you use H2/H3 as a way to make it easier for search engines to understand your content and properly index it. It also means making use of schema like FAQ to ensure your content fits the containers that search engines use, such as featured snippets. Using these tools helps make sure your content is searchable to the maximum capacity.
Having searchable content means making sure your meta titles and descriptions are optimized for SEO, as well as images and other components of your site (including blog posts). Popular blog topics cannot perform if they are not properly labeled and optimized.
6. Internal Linking
Create internal links linking back to relevant blog content across your site. Make sure, too, that all of your blog content sends and receives links from any other content that you might have. Use strategic anchor text to understand what the linked post is about to both your readers, and to search engines.
Internal linking is a useful tool to have in your tool belt, because it improves user experience by providing additional information and education, shows Google and other search engines what your site has to offer, and demonstrates how knowledgeable you are on a given subject. Internal linking is one more step as you write, but it is a worthwhile one.
7. Invest in Link Building
Link building, or backlinks, are also important for SEO rankings. Backlinks link from your site to another site altogether. They can be used to reference something back to a guest writer’s site, provide more information on a subject, or give an example of a product or complementary service from elsewhere.
Backlinks can also be beneficial from the perspective of exposure. Remember: these are real people viewing your blogs, and trying to find more information. When you link back to other sites, you can potentially benefit from the exposure of being tied to another site in your niche.

8. Seek Out Guest posting Opportunities
Guest posting allows you to share your thoughts with the world, and encourage them to visit your blog through the link in your bio–which then helps your backlink building! Guest posts are not always easy to come by, but the value of backlinks can often make guest posts beneficial for both parties.
The blogging community is a vast one, and there is no shortage of long-form content needs. By seeking out guest posting opportunities, you can develop posts for SEO improvement for both you and the brand or individual with whom you are collaborating.

9. Update and Upgrade Old Content
Updating and upgrading your old content is best done through analyzing your past performance in Google Analytics. If you have an opt-in lead magnet (see #14 below), look at your posts that show a high conversion rate, and start your updating efforts with those–provided, of course, that they are actually old and outdated. Remember: your content is ultimately an asset. Republishing an older blog means that it is one less new blog post that you have to create from scratch.
10. Invite Others to Contribute Guest Posts
I am a big fan of guest blogging, both on the sending and the receiving end. If you have guest bloggers who can write high-quality content for the relevant keywords you want to target, every blog post they write is one less post you have to write to successfully promote your blog.

Guest posts are also great to shake things up on your blog. People enjoy novelty, and experiencing a different perspective or tone can help provide a feeling of diversity within your blog posts. These posts can also be shared by the author on their sites and through social share buttons, which can increase your reach.
11. Collaborate with Others to Create Blog Content
By sourcing quotes from experts in your industry and influencers in your niche, you can create better quality content and improve the likelihood that your contributors will share any collaborations on their networks, and increase website traffic to your blog in the process.
The more diverse your sources of traffic are, the less you have to worry about losing a potential sphere of influence. Collaborating with others may not initially feel comfortable, as it means stepping out of the driver’s seat for a moment, but industry experts can agree: doing so can help your brand and the brand of your collaborator, and is a symbiotic relationship to cultivate.
Promoting Your Blog through Email
Mailing lists for businesses are not uncommon. After all, who hasn’t received an email newsletter or some form of email marketing from at least one brand? Having a mailing list is not the only important way to use email marketing platforms, however; email can also be used to promote your blog.
Each time you post a new blog, you can provide a basic teaser for that blog via your email marketing tool or platform, encouraging people to click the link and visit your blog.
12. Write Newsletters
Newsletters are a great way to keep in touch with your mailing list, and introduce your various blog posts. Optimizing your subject lines will also ensure more people actually open and read your emails! While evergreen content is great, don’t be afraid to hype any new posts on your blogging platforms, with specific keywords and identifiable subjects.
Newsletters are best when they are used as a multifaceted tool. You can introduce new products, announce new blogs, and even highlight collaborators and other useful products or blog posts relevant to your own content. Newsletters are essentially a collection of interesting snippets provided for your subscribers, alongside compelling images and text.

13. Use Opt-In Forms to Grow Your Email List
Increasing email subscribers can be extremely difficult, which is why using lead magnets with opt-in forms is usually the best way to go about building your email lists. These forms can be simple enough, consisting only of an “interested in more”? By offering the option of subscribing with a quick click of a button on your site or blog, or with some kind of offering, you can keep yourself top of mind with your audience.
14. Add an Email Signature to Your Emails
If you are sending out one or two dozen emails every day, adding an email signature to your blog gives you the chance to promote it thousands of times each year! A simple email signature can spark curiosity, and help you reach a larger audience.
Not every person to whom you send an email will be familiar with your blog, so using your email as a small promotional strategy can be a powerful tool to increase your overall audience.
The image above is my own actual email signature, created using Newoldstamp.
Promoting Your Blog through Social Media
Promoting both you and your content across your preferred social media platforms is another great way to increase the visibility of your blog content throughout the many online communities that thrum and grow every day.
Whether you keep your blog’s general URL as a part of your profile or you promote each individual blog post on your socials, providing an external link can help generate interest in your posts and encourage ongoing engagement with your blog posts.
15. Include Social Sharing Buttons for Your Community to Share Your Content on Social Networks
Social shares across your social channels are a goldmine for blog exposure, so make sure that your blogs have social sharing buttons. Common buttons include those for Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, but you can select any social buttons that are relevant to your brand or business. Remember that your online presence should be relatively seamless, so make it easy for your readers or followers to access all of your online content.
16. Include Links to Your Blog on Your Social Media Accounts
If you are really interested in promoting your blog on social media, you can change the link in your bio to your blog URL rather than your homepage. This will ensure that every visitor is immediately directed to your blog feed, rather than your homepage, when they check out your bio. While this may not be for everyone, for businesses or companies who rely on blogs for significant portions of their income or use it as an integral sales tool, linking directly to your blog can be extremely useful.
17. Be Active on Relevant Social Media Channels
Having a more active social media presence will automatically attract more people to you–and, as a consequence, your blog. Think about your own favorite social media creators. Are they the creators who put out content sporadically, without any kind of consistency or reliability? Chances are, your favorite creators are those who put out content on some type of schedule. You want to be that creator, and by becoming that type of social media presence, you increase the chances of pleasing algorithms and increasing exposure to a wider audience.
18. Share Your Posts on Relevant Social Media Sites
Where possible, include a blog link in your social media posts. Most platforms now allow creators and other business accounts to post links directly to posts, or the smaller posting options, like Instagram Reels. Use this to your advantage by adding a link to your blog in your posts where it is possible and relevant.
19. Turn Blog Content Into YouTube Videos
Blog content can also be turned into YouTube videos as a way of repurposing blogs (see #25). You can also embed the YouTube video you create based on a blog within the blog post, to help both pieces of content rank. Doing this also helps capture the attention and interest of different audience types: both those who prefer to take information in through reading, and those who prefer to take information in through visual media, like images and videos.
This technique can be used by virtually anyone who writes blogs, from cooking blogs to blogging sites tackling current events. Find a format that works for you, and a length you enjoy, and watch as both formats improve in their rankings.
20. Syndicate Your Blog Content on LinkedIn
I regularly encourage businesses and brands to use LinkedIn, and blogs are no different. There are plenty of differing opinions regarding syndication and whether or not it helps your blog or search engine rankings, but there is a way of using syndication to offer value.
Through previewing your content on a site like LinkedIn, with a link inviting users to see the original blog post, you can bring more visitors to your blog and provide a way for them to take in the value of the full piece.
Spending Money to Promote Your Blog
It can seem counterintuitive: spending money to promote your blog. Nevertheless, blogs can actually bring in a fair amount of money in the form of sponsored posts, sales conversions, and even simple exposure from a Google search. It makes sense, then, to consider spending money as a strategy for blog promotion, in order to maximize the possible gains from your blog. I suggest the following strategies to do so.
21. Consider Paid Promotion on Social Media
Boosting the blog posts you share on social media is another way of promoting your blog, but it may not be an efficient spend of your precious budget. When deciding whether or not to pay for promotion on social media, consider your budget, your marketing goals, and your social media reach. If your social media audience is not already substantial, or you do not operate within a solid niche, this may not be the best option for your needs.

22. Retarget your blog visitors
Retarget your blog visitors through social media ads and Google Ads. This approach may be more cost effective, but should only be considered for blog posts with high conversion rates for your business or opt-ins.
If you are going to put money into your social media ads, you need to make sure those ads are going to provide a decent return on investment (ROI). If your blog is not one that regularly produces sales or at least a reliable audience, it is likely not a good candidate for social ad retargeting.

Other Ideas to Promote Your Blog Post
Promoting blog posts is not always easy, but as you invest more in your blog over time, it can grow increasingly important to make sure you are promoting your blog on a regular basis. Although I have covered many of the ways I, myself promote my blogs, and the methods I encourage, there are a few more options to make sure that your blog posts are reaching regular readers and performing well in rankings. These include:
23. Read, comment on, and share other people’s posts from similar blogs and influencers in your targeted industries
If you want to improve your reach and performance, make sure you are engaging with other blogs! By being active on the blogs of influencers and brands within your industry, you are making your presence known to potential readers of your own blog and giving them a way to reach out. This can be done in an organic way, that does not sound like a sales pitch, or can be done by simply including a link to your blog in your sign off.
Sharing can also be a jumping off point for sharing your own work. If you stumble upon a blog in your niche that is in some way related to one of your own posts, you can share it along with “Read this today, after publishing [blog title]–Talk about kismet!” or something similar, to promote both blogs at once, and demonstrate your value alongside your competitors.
24. Make Guest Appearances on Podcasts
Guest appearances on podcasts can help you tap into the active communities of other creators. Podcasters can help you find your way to like-minded people, and provide a way for you to introduce yourself to a new audience and talk about or promote your blog.
Podcasts are also great because they let your personality shine. There is only so much you can convey behind a screen, but a podcast helps an audience get to know you in a completely different and new way. Podcasts can help show your serious side, your funny side, or even help show off your expertise, so it can be a great way to promote your work.
25. Repurpose your content
Finally, the piece de resistance! Repurpose your content whenever possible. Repurposing your content allows you to promote your ideas in many different content formats, to a variety of channels. The idea here is to encourage readers who want to learn more about a subject to come back to your blog.
You can repurpose content by creating YouTube videos, developing posts across your social channels to give bite-sized pieces of a larger blog post, or even just taking snippets from your blog and releasing them as quotes. No matter exactly how you do it, you can continually repurpose your content to keep creation running without pause.

Conclusion
Blog promotion may not always be top of mind in marketing strategy meetings and goal sheets, but blogs continue to provide a significant way to educate and inform an audience. By using the tools and tips I have outlined above, you can begin promoting your blogs to improve your search rankings, increase the size of your audience, and experience growth in your work overall.
Blog promotion aims to take monthly readers from spectators to engagers, to help improve click-through rates for sales, or increase engagement, and act as a source of support for a larger business or brand. Blogs are excellent sources of information, with an enormous range of possibilities. How-to content, reviews, product introductions, and more are all common topics found within blogs, and all of them can be used to support your business goals.
