Content repackaging is the number one content strategy that not enough people are using. I know this, because I have too many fellow bloggers, marketers and website owners who have never even tried it. Instead, they constantly beat their heads against the wall as they try to come up with fresh content constantly. But our minds don’t work like that; sometimes we need to make the most of what we already have, before coming up with the next great idea.
When they ask me how to go about repackaging, one of my biggest tips is to use SlideShare. Not because it is better than any other tactic, technically. It is just the one that I have both have the most success with, and found to be fastest and easiest. When you are running a business and trying to build a brand, shortcuts are always appreciated.
Here are my top three tips for using SlideShare to repackage content.
Tip #1: Create A Presentation From A Blog Post
This is the first and most obvious tip, and the one that I use constantly. It is so very easy to create a SlideShare presentation when you have all of the information right there. You just have to break it down into little, easily swallowed bite sized bits. That takes a surprisingly short amount of time. Most of the energy will be spent creating the slide themselves.
When you do make the slides, keep it minimalist. You don’t want too much text, just enough to let the person viewing it know what they need to. Any visuals, including pictures, should be used to enhance the slide and help prove a point or keep the viewers focus. Don’t go too crazy with typography, you want it to look clean, not cluttered.
One you have created a slideshow, it gives you a whole new medium to use. Embed it is posts, share it with social media, and enjoy the benefits of having a fresh pool of readers to fish from.

Recently SlideShare has partnered with HaikuDeck allowing you to create presentations right from within Slideshare. I tried it but I am sticking with native HaikuDeck dashboard:
You can’t download presentations you create from within SlideShare and I always edit them before uploading to SlideShare to add watermarks and links. Furthermore, you can’t re-upload presentations you create from within SlideShare (so if you misspelled anything), you are screwed.

Just putting out your article on SlideShare is a waste of effort: You need market that piece of content separately to drive more value to your site and asset! Mind the part where it says that you need to name your presentation differently than your blog post to avoid competing with yourself in search results.
Tip #2: Use A Presentation To Create A Video
While this isn’t the most effective way of using these presentations, you can at least use it to wriggle onto another platform. Create a slideshow, and you already have the slides. That can then be converted into a video file, add music, and you have a video.
Having a video will let you post on sites like YouTube and Vimeo. This format isn’t super popular, but it does have its fans. More importantly, it gives you access to YouTube viewers that might have never seen your content, and can direct them to your website.
The easiest way to create a video from a presentation is to use PowerPoint or KeyNote and dictate from notes attached to the presentation.
Tip #3: Use A Presentation to Create a Viral Animated Gif Using
Animated gifs are hot: They can provide an instruction, explain things easier and walk through the process. Most major social media networks (except for Facebook) support animated gifs and they are very sharable.
SlideShare decks make perfect animated gifs: You can animate and loop your presentation for it to get shared as an image. Gifdeck is an easy way to convert part of your presentation into an animated gif.

A Note On Content Repackaging
Repackaging content does not mean lazily cutting and pasting. You still have to make something that is unique, just using the information already available to you. That is true of any kind of content, not just slideshows.
For instance, if you were to be making an infographic, you wouldn’t just copy and paste sections from your blog post into the grid, right? You have to put in extra effort to make sure what you are giving viewers is valuable. You are merely trying to show it to people who may not have come across it, because they don’t reach blogs as much as they view presentations. Here’s a great example of visual re-purposing from startablog123.com: an infographic visualizing the difference between Drupal and WordPress. It could male a great SlideShare deck as well!

SlideShare is a powerful tool. Just think of how much exposure you could get by putting an active link to your blog in the description and final slide of your presentation. That increased traffic will ultimately boost your success, while using content that you had already published. You don’t even have to create something entirely new, just a new way of showing it off!
