3 Social Media Applications To Help You Rock Social Curation And Sharing

by Tammy Kahn Fennell

3-Social-Media-Applications-To-Help-You-Rock-Social-Curation-And-Sharing-V1

The web is noisy. There’s so much to see, so much to read, so little time.  There is clutter.  Here is how Wikipedia describes digital curation:

Digital curation is the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital assets.

There isn’t a wikipedia article for Social Curation yet, but it’s happening, and there are apps popping up to help you find information and share socially. At MarketMeSuite we are focused on helping our users cut through the clutter to find value in marketing on social, so I’m always on the lookout for cool social media apps that are helping make the social web an easier place to navigate. Here are 3 social apps that I have been having a lot of fun with lately.

Quote.FM

In their own words, Quote.FM helps you find and share stories worth your time. Using their browser plugin, or by going directly to their web app,  you can read any article on the web, and automatically send highlighted content to your Quote.fm account.

As someone who doesn’t have a 3g enabled iPad, I love that the articles you save on your iPad are still available even when you’re not connected to the Internet. You can highlight offline then, as soon as you connect, you can share.

Newsle

Operating under the mantra of “Know Your Network.”  Newsle works well because it filters out all of the social noise and only lets you know of which followers and connections have been in the news that day or week. When the Newsle email comes, I open it, because I know it will be a digest filled with noteworthy things that are happening with people in my network.

It gives me a chance to help them amplify this message, congratulate them, etc. Newsle helps me keep racking up karma points by telling me which messages are truly share-worthy so that I help my fellow connections.  And, I have to admit, it feels really cool when you see yourself on the digest and know that your recent coverage has now been shown to your network!

Storify

Storify has been around for a while but they have recently undergone some pretty cool changes.  The concept around Storify is to create stories out of your social content, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, even links you find on the web.I’ve found great uses for tweetchat recaps and event digests. Think of it like a newspaper you create with a focus around social reactions.

You were always able to see other Storify stories, but the redesign seems to take it to the next level, making it super easy to search for subjects of interest and allowing you to see already curated content.

Relevance Is Key

The social sphere is big; it’s noisy; it’s unruly.  But there are many nuggets of awesomeness out there, worthy of being found, curated and shared.  Quote.FM, Newsle and Storify are three social media applications I think are worthy of everyday use.
What sharing and curation tools do you use and find beneficial?
